Goblins, Ghouls, and Witches Oh My!

Writer: MelyssaMelyssa

Aisles filled with candy, tons of crazy fun costumes to choose from, and all the spooks that come along for the ride. One of my most favorite holidays, Halloween.

Growing up I would always look forward to Halloween. I absolutely loved dressing up, still do! The excitement of being younger and finding that perfect costume that just made me look so cool! The allure of being out late at night, going house to house filling my bag with candy! Then coming home and feeling so accomplished absolutely made my night.

My traditions now are a bit different but I still love to dress up and eat TONS of candy! A good Halloween party with family and friends, taking the kids trick-or-treating, or even just cozying up on the couch and having a scary movie marathon all night is what makes my Halloween nights.

For Halloween this year we are taking the boys trick-or-treating, I couldn't be more excited! This year is Rubens 2nd year and Brandons 1st year trick-or-treating. I always order the boys costumes from the Disney Store, this year is a Superhero theme! Ruben is The Amazing Spider-Man, and Brandon will be Captain America! Heroes in my heart everyday.

It is definitely difficult going out anywhere with 2 young kids , especially Halloween night, but with a little preparation your night can fly by without a tick. If you want to avoid the crowds and the kids getting tired and grumpy I would recommend going to a public place instead. Many elementary and high schools host trick-or-treating for kids within the school. This way it is definitely safer, a lot cooler than outside, and you will spend way less time than going house to house with a 50/50 chance someone is home.

Of course that's just one option. If you absolutely love the tradition of house to house fun here are some tips to make it through the night without your little ones getting grumpy. Always leave prepared. Take the car with you and park it near by. Depending on the age of your little ones always take the stroller. If you have kids younger than 1 year, for me that would be Brandon, bring the diaper bag with at least 2 prepared bottles, extra diapers, wipes, and don't forget the change of clothes! For kids older than a year bring something cold to drink that can easily be opened and closed. I suggest taking a Ziploc bag with some snacks; my go to snacks are apple slices, carrot sticks, or some teddy grahams. For yourself be sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Most importantly HAVE FUN!! Happy Halloween!

xoxo Melyssa
